The Emerald Isle
We’re here! The flight over was a scant 5 and a half hour red-eye, so we didn’t get much sleep, but it was comfortable. Dublin airport was a breeze to navigate through with our only hiccup being a little trouble finding the Uber pick-up.
Once we got that sorted, we we’re to our Air Bnb within 20 minutes. While we waited for our check-in, we spent some time exploring the neighborhood via the hop-on/hop-off bus, which was a great, cheap way to see what’s of interest without exhausting ourselves any further.
We also got to see some mummies. No, I’m not kidding. One was 800 years old, in a crypt beneath a church. There’s nothing quite like being led into the dark down crumbling stone stairs by a wise-cracking Irishman to really test your nerve. We couldn’t take photos inside the crypt obviously, out of respect for the deceased, but the church and grounds were hauntingly beautiful, and you can see the delightful entryway to the crypt.
We’re heading to bed now, as we’re all about to pass out, but everyone we have met so far has just been incredibly friendly and eager to share this beautiful city with us. It’s been a wonderful first day!
